Medium format review: Kodak Ektar 100

My name is Andrew and I am a fine art destination wedding photographer in Italy (Lake Como, Amalfi). This article is about the most discussed film - Kodak Ektar 100 (medium format).

Kodak Ektar is a well-known film for nature, be it mountains, hills, rivers or oceans - people adore this film for its saturation and vibrant look. Many will say DO NOT USE IT FOR PORTRAITS and yes - this was enough for me to actually USE it for portraits. And you know what? I loved it. My lab was slightly complaining about it (they had to battle oversaturated reds) but it came out very nicely and I am in love with its colour palette. Something that I would use again if I happen to take modern look portraits. Let's just see the results which will explain more than any words. So Kodak Ektar medium format with some additional 35mm examples of this film on the bottom of this page:

And here are some 35mm samples just to compare. I find 35mm film muddy and unpleasant colourwise so I would definitely not shoot this film anymore. I have shot the very same Villa del Balbianello on Kodak Portra 800 and images were way better than Ektar results which are presented below:

To compare: Same villa on Kodak Portra 800 35mm
