My name is Andrew and I am a fine art destination wedding photographer in Italy (Lake Como, Amalfi). In my spare time I work on different projects and one of my recent projects is a casual film test. This article is going to be about the most popular portrait film Kodak Portra 400 pushed to ISO 800, or by +1 stop.
While working on one of my projects I decided to try push for the first time in my life. This is really scary when you do it for the first time while working on a very serious event like where I was. Still, I have read lots of articles that pushing Portra is quite common so I decided to give it a go. Since my initial location was very dark while the stage - fully lit by concert lights, I had a perfect time to push 400 to 800 and get better speed results which was a good decision to make. When I got my scans from Photolab.LT I was quite amazed how good the shots were. I had a luck to shoot several medium format and 35mm film on that concert so I had what to compare to. How awkward it is - I preferred pushed 35mm Portra results to pushed Fuji 400h, Portra 800 and Cinestill 800T - all medium format film. I will post one shot from each film below on this page but for now - have a look at Kodak Portra 400 pushed to 800. Lower on the page you will also find some casual shots with the pushed Portra during the day time.
